Bike Week Pasadena

Got a bike?! Then, you’re ready for an action-packed week of events – the 6th Annual Bike Week Pasadena, May 14th-19th, 2012.  C.I.C.L.E., the L.A. based bike advocacy non-profit, and the City of Pasadena present a week-long showcase for most skill levels and age groups to promote bicycling as a safe and sustainable mode of transportation.

All Bike Week Pasadena activities are free and open to the public. Here are this year’s highlights:

Monday, May 14, 6:30pm-9:30pm

A Taste of Pasadena Ride

Join C.I.C.L.E. for a rolling gourmet food sampling!  Enjoy the tasting tour as we bike our way to Pasadena Playhouse restaurants. This ride will highlight the great food Pasadena has to offer including stops at Japon Bistro, El Portal Restaurant, Tender Greens and Whole Foods Market Arroyo Parkway.

Location: Meet at Memorial Park Pasadena (Raymond Ave & Holly St.)

What to Bring: Your bicycle, in good running order, and plenty of night lights. All participants should be able to ride a bike safely with the ability to brake, change gears, and balance while stopping and starting. All participants under 18 must wear a helmet and be escorted by a parent or guardian. Children under age 8 should be on a tag-a-long, bike trailer, tandem, or other safe child-carrying device to participate in the ride.

Tuesday, May 15, 6:30pm – 9:30pm

Ladies Night

Join C.I.C.L.E. for a Ladies Night maintenance clinic and ride. This female-focused event starts with a maintenance clinic for all levels by the LUNA Chix Team. Whether you’re the McGuiver of bike repair or don’t have the first clue about how to change a flat, come on down to see how it’s done. After the maintenance clinic, enjoy a short and sweet, social ride with like-minded, lady bikers around Pasadena. Paseo Colorado shops and Bike Week Pasadena sponsors will provide giveaways during the event.  Once back at Paseo Colorado, attendees are invited to a group discount at the Bodega Wine Bar.

Wednesday, May 16, 5:30pm – 8:00pm

The Mayor’s Ride & Family Night at the Rose Bowl

The Mayor’s bike ride will be an opportunity for the city to come together for a family-friendly bike ride. Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard leads this ride around the historic Rose Bowl.  All ages and skill levels are welcome.  Join in the community fun of exploring this beautiful Pasadena landmark by bike.  This event will include vendors, entertainment, bicycle support from Pasadena Cyclery and prizes for children and adults.

  • Opening Remarks – Begins at 5:45 with Mayor Bogaard and an introduction of elected officials.
  • Group Rose Bowl Bike Ride – Departing at 6:00pm. The bike ride is 3 miles and will include both new and experienced riders, and families. It will be a slow paced ride (10 mph) with designated ride leaders from C.I.C.L.E.
  • Family-Friendly Event – The ride will return for family activities, vendors, and prizes.

Location: The Rose Bowl (Arroyo Blvd and Seco St).

Bike to Work Day

The City of Pasadena invites bicycle commuters to stop at the “Bike to Work Day” pit-stop at Pasadena City Hall. This nationwide event celebrates commuting by bike. Participants will be invited to stop for coffee and snacks as they make their way to work. C.I.C.L.E. will provide tips on safe riding habits and bike routes to new and seasoned riders. This pit-stop will give bicycle commuters an opportunity to socialize with other bicycle commuters, relax, and be appreciated for biking to work. Renew your commitment to bike commuting or take the pledge to join the community. So stop to smell (and taste) the coffee during your morning ride and enjoy the relaxation and appreciation due to bike commuters.

Bike Home From Work Shift Party

Stop by Pasadena’s Incycle bicycle shop for C.I.C.L.E.’s Bike Home From Work event.  Incycle is offering free bike safety checks and 15% discounts on selected accessories.  New Belgium Brewing will providing one free Shift brew to treat commuters (over 21) who stop by.  Unwind with us, get your bike inspected and check out some cool gear!

Bike-In Movie Night

Remember the drive-in? Pasadena will have its first bike-in on May 18th! Ride with us to One Colorado Courtyard to watch Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Don’t get your bike stolen like Pee Wee! There will be a bicycle locking clinic before we depart. Enjoy refreshments, food, and discounts while at One Colorado. Bring your friends, your family, or a date for this unforgettable bike-in movie!.

Saturday, May 19th 6:30pm-11:00pm

All City Ride and Bike Week Pedal Party

Celebrate the end of Bike Week Pasadena and the beginning of your bike life! Pedal through the streets while visiting Pasadena landmarks before ending at Paseo Colorado.  Once at Paseo Colorado, attendees will be invited to stay for an evening that will include food from Whole Foods Market Arroyo, New Belgium brews, music, giveaways, awesome prizes from REI and a fundraiser for C.I.C.L.E.

Ride starts and ends at: Paseo Colorado – 280 East Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA
