Salem, OR — Bicyclists are scheduled to gather at the state Capitol at 10 a.m. March 18 to ride on an early leg of the Journey of HOPE, or Healing Our People and Earth.

The ride will travel through Independence, then south along Corvallis Road to the Benton County Courthouse in Corvallis. Area cyclists are encouraged to participate in all or part of the ride.

The event aims to connect communities along the West Coast and across the south, each a bike ride from the next.

Riders will share techniques for simplifying life and building peaceful communities.

The event will converge with other similar rides in Washington, D.C., on World Car-Free Day, Sept. 22.
