Mayor Villaraigosa has been talking a lot about making Los Angeles a green city and about working hard to resolve our city’s transportation problems. Bike to Work Day is an excellent opportunity to invite the Mayor to get on a bike and lead by example. By riding to work on May 17th, Villaraigosa could help set the tone for greater emphasis on bicycles as transportation in Los Angeles.
Please send this letter, or one of your own, to Mayor Villaraigosa today.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
200 North Spring Street, Room 303
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Dear Honorable Mayor Villaraigosa,
Please join me in riding a bike to work on “Bike to Work Day”, Thursday May 17, 2007. Thousands of people in Los Angeles, as well as across America, will be riding their bikes to work in an effort to reduce pollution, cut traffic congestion, save money on gas, and increase their physical activity. Many of those people will be biking to work for the first time. A large number of them will discover that bicycling is a viable transportation option.
I ask you to show your support by joining us for one day. Even if a small percentage of daily L.A. car commuters ride to work once a week, we’d see a huge reduction in traffic congestion and we’d be healthier thanks to the cleaner air and improved physical fitness that bikes offer. You can help encourage Angelinos to try bike commuting which fits beautifully with your plan to make Los Angeles the greenest, cleanest city in America. Please don’t miss this once-a-year opportunity. The cycling community welcomes you.
