SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. and WASHINGTON D.C.  – Interbike, producers of the OutDoor Demo and Interbike International Bicycle Expo, today announced it is one of the sponsors of the seventh annual National Bicycle Summit to be held in Washington D.C. March 14-16, 2007. More than 300 bicycling industry executives, advocates and educators will meet at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington D.C. and in a series of workshops will discuss bicycles as a means for positive climate change, a healthier nation, in addition to discussing bicycle access issues, both on- and off-road.

During the Summit workshops attendees will weave together a national bicycling strategy, while also outlining the details of specific legislative proposals. Following the workshops, attendees will divide into special delegations and meet with members of the 110th Congress on Capitol Hill to garner their support on current and proposed legislation affecting cyclists and the industry.

The National Bike Summit is produced by Washington D.C.-based League of American Bicyclists, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation.

"Every bicyclist, advocate, enthusiast, and industry leader has a vision of where bicycling should be," said Andy D. Clarke, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. "The National Bike Summit is our opportunity to inform members of Congress of the importance of bicycling in the critical fields of transportation, health, recreation, tourism, energy and the environment."

"The National Bike Summit has helped gain positive governmental support for cyclists and the industry during the last few years," said Lance Camisasca, Interbike’s show director. "With cyclist James Oberstar now a senior member on the government's Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the 2007 Bike Summit can garner even more support. We're happy to join the League and the National Bike Summit’s other sponsors in working to make the Summit a success, and we encourage everyone in the bike industry to join us in Washington."

The National Bike Summit's lead sponsor is Bikes Belong, and is also sponsored by International Mountain Bicycling Association, Adventure Cycling, Planet Bike, Adventure Cycling, Interbike, National Bicycle Dealers Association, Quality Bicycle Products, Washington Area Bicyclist Association, American Diabetes Association, AASHTO, Cycle Safe, Dero, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
