Looking Back: SHOP-RIDE-NELA + Ribbon Cutting, a historic event!

From Highland Park to Eagle Rock, we rode along York and Colorado Boulevards to shop and support local businesses by bike. After arriving on Colorado we grabbed a front row seat (saddle!) to inaugurate the Bicycle Friendly Business District’s bicycle corral with ribbon cutting by Councilmember Huizar! Enjoy the photos below from this historic moment (and see more here!).

Volunteer Spotlight: Get to Know Joni Yung

Joni & street signsWe have an awesome team of volunteers who share their time, energy, and love for bicycles with us every month. Joni Yung is one of these rockstars. We asked her a few questions about volunteering and this is what she had to share:

Why do you bike and what do you love about it?

I live in very bike-friendly Santa Monica, so getting around town on bike is a no-brainer — I don’t have to worry about getting stuck in traffic nor dealing with parking (or worse yet, parking tickets), and I always seem to run into friends while I’m cruising along the numerous bike lanes. Riding a bike gives me a sense of freedom, community and being kind to the environment. It’s also a great way to get in even more exercise when I’m not running or in a yoga class. More calories burned means more chocolate!

Joni the valetHow and why did you link up with C.I.C.L.E.?

I first heard about C.I.C.L.E. after I read about their bike+food rides in the Pasadena area. Not wanting to make the long trek from the westside, I kept them on my radar and finally got a chance to join them on the Santa Monica Museum of Arts’ Tour da Arts ride. I was hooked ever since!

Any fun bike facts about yourself?

My pink mixte with its prayer flags is somewhat of a celebrity that’s spotted at every CicLAvia and outside yoga studios and all the best donut shops in town. Follow its exploits on twitter at @ayogist.

Our volunteer team is always growing! Volunteer with us by signing up here. No experience necessary, we’d love to train you!
