A retail store, a bicycle advocacy group, and a city collaborate to promote the ease and joy of car-free transportation.

An old green Schwinn cruiser rests on its kick stand, the metal basket mounted on the rear carries a canvas bag full of french bread, onions, yams, and a bouquet of flowers. The vegetables are not real, nor the flowers fresh cut, they are mere props. All this is just part of a window display at the Patagonia store in Old Town Pasadena. Its intention is not meant to drum up sales either, rather the store has turned several of its high profile windows on Union street over to support the efforts of a small bicycle advocacy group known as C.I.C.L.E.

[[image:pat_article.jpg::left:1]]Yup that’s us, and we were pretty ecstatic when we first started working on this with some of the folks at the store. And what was only meant to be a window display soon manifested into working with the store, the City of Pasadena, and Metro to organize a month-long series of workshops and events, all promoting car-free and car-lite lifestyles. Needless to say, we are so amazed, incredibly honored, and flattered to be a part of this fantastic collaboration.

But it wouldn’t be complete without you there! Some of you can’t make it, we understand — it’s a long ride from Sydney or Santiago or even the east coast. But for those of you locals, we sure would love to see you at Tuesday night's kick-off event. Come celebrate with us, and meet some really neat people that share this vision of a car-lite city.

Check out the events, and encourage your friends and family to come out for them as well — especially if you are trying to get them to think outside of the box, even if it is only for just a mile or two.

Immense thanks and gratitude to Aimee, (you are amazing) and Sarene, Hillary and the all the other kind hearted people at Patagonia for their support and confidence in us.

Many thanks to Linda Centell for getting excited about this project and getting the city of Pasadena involved.

And big thanks to Lindsey Walker for taking the fabulous photo used in the window display! You can see more of her photography at www.LindseyWalker.com
