Pacific Cycle, owner and distributor of the Schwinn, Mongoose and GT Bicycles brands, is supporting Madison's charge to become a platinum-rated "Bicycle Friendly Community."

Pacific Cycle has provided funds to help the Madison’s Platinum Biking Committee create a bicycle plan that, once implemented, will take Madison to a new level in biking.

“We’re committed to promoting cycling, and making the Madison community even more healthy and environmentally conscious is a priority for Pacific Cycle,” said Jeff Frehner, chief executive officer of Pacific Cycle. “We are fortunate to live in a place that is so bicycle-friendly, and with a few adjustments we can be one of just two platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Communities in the U.S.”

The League of American Bicyclists, which administers the Bicycle Friendly Community Campaign, assigns levels from bronze to platinum to recognize communities that are improving conditions for bicyclists and bicycling. Currently, Davis, California, is the sole platinum-rated BFC. Madison is one of seven gold-rated BFCs.

“Madison has long been recognized as a great city for bicycling,” said Madison Mayor David Cieslewicz. “With the support of community partners like Pacific Cycle, we’re confident that we can make Madison the most bicycle-friendly city in the nation.”
