** The weather gods are pausing just for us. The Green Resolutions ride is ON. See you at 10:30 AM **

Los Angeles, CA – Have you already broken your New Year’s Resolutions? Now is your chance to pedal into a resolution you can keep! Join C.I.C.L.E. and friends as we explore the Silver Lake neighborhood by bicycle in search of green and sustainable living ideas on the February 2008 Bikes in the City : Urban Expeditions “Green Resolutions Ride”. The Green Resolutions Ride gives you the opportunity to find ways that you can make a contribution to your health, the health of others and the planet. At the end of the day, you will have a new set of (green) resolutions, and you’ll be armed with all the tools you need to keep them.

Our first stop on the route is the Silver Lake Farmer's Market where Amy Bowen of EarthWorks Community Farm, will engage us in an informal discussion about the importance of supporting local agriculture and LA’s Farmer’s markets. Eco-Home is the second stop where we will embark on a self-guided tour of this retrofitted California-style bungalow turned living research center, that demonstrates ecological living in an urban environment. Enjoy an informative Q&A with the homestead owner, who just happens to be carfree. On the return, we’ll swing by the Bicycle Kitchen, an energetic community-run, DIY bike-repair space, and meet with some of the “cooks" that help to create bike-magic at the Kitchen.

C.I.C.L.E.’s new Urban Expeditions program, made possible in part by R.E.I, is a year-long series of monthly community-focused bicycle rides. The Urban Expeditions ride series was developed by CICLE to build community by giving local residents a chance to explore their neighbor-hoods on two-wheels. Liz Elliott and Shay Sanchez co-founded C.I.C.L.E. based on the belief that cycling is a sustainable way to build community, as well as bring all cyclists, from first time riders, to racers, to commuters to recreational riders together in this age of disconnect and detachment.

Urban Expeditions, which are led by 2 League Certified Cycling Instructors and facilitated by an all-volunteer team of ride leaders and sweeps, provide a safe and enjoyable riding environment for beginning and experienced riders alike. Rides are typically under 7 miles, are fully supported, and follow all basic traffic laws and principles.

The ride is open to everyone at no charge, and families are encouraged to participate in the ride. Bikes should be in good running order, and all participants under 18 must wear a helmet. Children under age 9 should be on a tag-a-long, bike trailer, tandem, or other safe child-carrying device.
